Biomet Rapid Recovery Programme

Rapid Recovery Programme

The Biomet Rapid Recovery® programme is a comprehensive approach to optimise the management of the orthopaedic care pathway.

The programme is built on the heritage of a decade of experience in Process Optimisation (Joint Care®) for primary hip and knee replacements, and more recently, for shoulder replacement and other procedures.

Experience has shown that the Rapid Recovery® programme increases patient satisfaction while reducing costs through a reduced hospital stay and other efficiences.

The Rapid Recovery® programme consists of 6 main elements:

  1. Process Optimisation – Improving the efficiency and quality of care in joint replacement surgery by using an integrated care pathway from pre-operative assessment through to post-operative discharge

  2. Advanced Healing Concepts – Proven Biomet Solutions that enhance the healing process as well as continuous literature updates on research related to an accelerated recovery, ranging from pain management to nutrition

  3. Superior Implants – Clinically proven prostheses that support a less traumatic surgical approach, aid in the recovery of the patient and provide long term satisfaction

  4. Optimising Surgical Procedure – Anatomical Specimen Courses on less traumatic approaches in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna and other leading centres

  5. Data Collection – Enabling the Orthopaedic Department to document and analyse all processes surrounding joint replacement surgery, such as patient satisfaction, cost and clinical outcome

  6. Healthcare Marketing – Allowing the hospital to differentiate itself by communicating its services to their patients

The Orthopaedic Skills Academy provides a wide range of educational and training programmes to support the successful introduction of Rapid Recovery® into a hospital. These include:

  1. Instructional Courses utilising anatomical specimens for training on less traumatic surgical approaches and the importance of implant selection

  2. Multi-disciplinary educational visits for the whole team to experience first hand Rapid Recovery® in centres already benefiting from the programme
